Peer Mentoring

In October of this year, the African American Ministers Association hosted its annual Peer Mentoring conference of the Evangelical Covenant Church at LifeChurch Southfield in Southfield, MI. The event hosted several African American Covenant pastors from around the country. These leaders (Dr. Efrem Smith, Pastor Nicole Bullock and Reverend Lance Davis among others) provided 2 days of lectures, workshops and worship for Covenant ministers from several states. The theme of this year’s event was Achieving Pastoral Care. LifeChurch Southfied was a perfect place for the event – a large auditorium for worship and lectures, and many breakout rooms for workshops. Pastor Alan Tumpkin (lead pastor at LifeChurch Southfield) said it was a huge success and he was so thankful to be a part of such an amazing opportunity. It was also very nice that The Great Lakes Conference is located within the church! Garth McGrath (The Great Lakes Conference Superintendent) and some of the staff were so happy to help any way needed, and to be a small part of this wonderful event.

The African American Ministers Association (AAMA) is a place of fellowship, education and empowerment. Those that attended the event had the opportunity to grow with their peers while developing ministerial skills. The knowledge gained opens the opportunity to engage within the community and ministerium, learning from established ministry leaders. They support each other, and work together to build relationships and grow within the Kingdom of God. The Peer Mentoring Conference is held the second week of October every year in different parts of the country and next year the event will take place in Chicago.
