One Covenant Community Launch

We are excited to share that the Great Lakes Conference has joined One Covenant Community, a major five-year initiative funded through the Lilly Endowment’s Pathways for Tomorrow initiative and led by North Park Theological Seminary. This project represents an unprecedented partnership across the entire Covenant family, bringing together regional conferences, Covenant camps, educational affiliates, denominational offices, and the Association of Covenant Spiritual Directors.

The purpose of One Covenant Community is to strengthen the entire ecosystem of pastoral leadership within the ECC—from vocational call, to theological education, to credentialing, to lifelong support. Together, our shared goal is to cultivate a thriving pipeline of healthy, well-equipped pastors and lay leaders for Covenant congregations...

Pastor’s Corner with Jared Van Voorst

Pastor Jared Van Voorst’s story begins in South Dakota where he was born. Early on, around 1st grade, he moved to the northwest corner of Iowa; to a small rural town where close-knit community and simple routines shaped his early life. Sundays meant gathering at the local Congregational UCC church while in South Dakota and then the Reformed Church in Iowa, where Jared’s earliest impressions of faith were formed in a setting that valued community, worship, and faithfulness.

On May 21, 2026 the GLC held a virtual session to help Church Council/Leadership Teams and Pastoral Staff identify, recruit, equip, empower and encourage people in their congregation to serve in key leadership roles in church. The importance of intentional leadership development and succession planning in the local church cannot be overstated!
