The Dental Clinic that Almost Wasn't: Attorney General, Homeland Security, the Presidential Palace and More!
Tammy Hernadez recently wrote about the mission trip to her church, “Tal Como Soy” in the Dominican Republic.
Faith Covenant Church of Farmington Hills, MI came down for our third annual dental clinic in the community. With the help of their amazing team, we were able to give brighter and healthier smiles to 158 people. Seeing a dentist is a luxury that most cannot afford, where you only go to the dentist when they are in severe pain. It was a JOY to see some come back from years past—just for a cleaning! The team was also able to help a pastor serving his community for more than 30 years finally dig and pour the foundation for his very own home.
“So what is this about the Presidential Palace”, you may ask? We had plans set for 3 of the team to come down early with the majority of the dental supplies and machines. Due to misinformation, we did not have the proper letter for them to enter…and 5 bags that valued more than our vehicle, were detained. The stress, sleepless nights, pivoting and countless phone calls and meetings are a story in itself, but that story PALES in comparison to our GOD that is bigger than it all! It was an amazing lesson in uniting together with unlikely partners, how undesirable circumstances now gives us access to private phone numbers of some of the top leaders in the country and customs officials banding together to get us all of the bags back.
