Summer Fun at Portage Lake Covenant Bible Camp

We’re blessed in the Great Lakes Conference to have two wonderful summer camps, one of which is Portage Lake Covenant Bible Camp in northern Michigan. I had the opportunity to have a wonderful conversation with Marc Eix, the Camp Director at Portage Lake, about what’s been happening at the Camp this summer.After all the Covid-19 craziness, it’s wonderful to find out that they had full camps, both the kids camps and family camps. Worship took place, the camp was filled with joy and laughter, and there were activities for everyone — most importantly, new conversions to Christ. Also many people who are coming as committed Christians are being discipled to deepen their faith.

But that doesn’t mean that the camp hasn’t had their problems. The summer had just begun and they found themselves without a cook!  Staffing the kitchen also proved difficult. But in the face of these headwinds, the people of the GLC rose to the challenge. Volunteers stepped forward, temporary help showed up, and life at the camp continued on despite the difficulties they faced. New people arrived and were introduced to the camp. Many are making first time commitments to Christ. The wonderful thing about the camp is that it is an extension of the mission of the Church. We’ve been able to put people in a new and different environment that allows them to challenge their preconceived notions and examine faith from a different perspective.

But, the Camp needs help from the GLC. Pray for the camp and the challenges they’re facing. Pray for volunteers to step up and help in crucial areas. Pray that the time people spent and spend at camp is being used by the Lord to win them to faith and deepen their faith so they can be better servants of the Kingdom of God.
