Men’s Retreat Recap

In a culmination of many Jesus-centered camp experiences as Executive Director of Portage Lake Bible Camp, Dave Nesburg spoke into the lives of over 50 men seeking to grow in faith and relationship with one another at the Men’s Retreat this past September.

As a reminder, the Portage Lake Men’s Retreat is held annually for anyone seeking adventure, relaxation, worship, community, and connection with God.

Nick Loubert, the PLCBC Program Director adds: “The Men’s Retreat is about bringing men together in order that they go home as better friends, fathers, sons and community members. Each year, our goal for Men’s Retreat is to foster fellowship in a Christ-centered community — to help men lead the way the Lord has taught. Oh, and we eat A LOT of bacon!”

Speaking of bacon… the men ate a record-breaking amount of pork at the Portage Lake 24/7 bacon bar. Staff estimate that there was over 150 lbs of bacon consumed by men at this one retreat! Now that’s a lot of bacon!

Represented at this year’s retreat were several GLC churches. Below are quotes from three Portage Lake Men’s Retreat attendees:

“We have had guys attend the Men’s Retreat at PLCBC for decades, but in the last ten years, we have made it a priority to go. Over the years we have had as many as 25 men from Dearborn attend the weekend, which we believe is a large group for a church of our size. We emphasize studying the Bible and accountability with our men. The Men’s Retreat is another avenue we use in the teaching process, and has helped bring our guys closer to each other and closer to the Lord.”

“Bacon, skeet shooting, football and fellowship — What a weekend! The speaker really ministered to us in the grace of God that shapes us into His masterpiece. There was lots of time to process and talk to God and have great conversations with other men. Def’ not gonna’ miss it next year!”
Kris Johns, Faith Covenant, Manistee, MI

“The Men’s Retreat is something I have been enjoying for many years. The accommodations and staff are excellent, and so is the location — but what keeps drawing me there is the opportunity to have fellowship with Jesus in that wonderful setting and the heart-to-heart fellowship with the other men. The relationship with the men of my church has helped me to grow in knowing and loving Christ more and to mature my faith…”
