Fall Pastors’ Retreat Highlights
Each year, pastors, their spouses along with staff eagerly anticipate the GLC’s Fall Pastors’ Retreat. When we retreat, we are engaging in an activity, to move back or withdraw. That’s the intent of each Ministers’ Retreat we hold. On October 30th-November 1st a group of about 100 ministers, their spouses, and staff, retreated to the picturesque Maumee Bay State Park Resort for a time of refreshment, fellowship, and input. This annual event offers a much-needed opportunity for rest, rejuvenation, and spiritual growth.
Throughout the retreat, participants engaged in evening worship services with the music being led by Jalen Seawright and Bianca White. The services provided a space for reflection, connection, and renewal. We believe that these services are a focal point of inspiration and encouragement for pastors who tirelessly serve their congregations throughout the year.
The retreat also ensured that attendees are well-fed both physically and emotionally. With three delicious meals served each day, they indulged in flavorful dishes while enjoying meaningful conversations with their colleagues. This time of fellowship allowed pastors and their spouses to forge new friendships, share experiences, and find solace in knowing they are not alone in their journey – leading their congregations.
In addition to the structured activities, free time is intentionally built into the schedule. This enabled participants to explore the serene surroundings of Maumee Bay State Park Resort at their leisure and simply take a moment to reflect on God’s creation. They can also read, chat with friends, nap, or anything else that would help them enjoy their time at their retreat.
This year, the pastors were led in the large group sessions by Dennis Edwards, Vice President for Church Relations, and Dean of North Park Seminary. He spoke about humility. With his expertise in pastoral care and theology, Dr. Edwards delivered insightful messages that resonated deeply with our pastors and other attendees, offering guidance on navigating various aspects of pastoral life.
To add an element of fun and lightheartedness to the gathering, various games were organized during free time. Laughter could be heard as the pastors unleased their competitive spirits while bonding with one another through friendly competition.
The Fall Pastors’ Retreat serves as an oasis where our pastors and their spouses can find a little solace, seek spiritual nourishment, strengthen relationships with colleagues from the many different churches in our conference all while creating lasting memories. Hope to see you next year in 2024!
