SUMMARY:Fall Pastors Retreat 2025
DESCRIPTION:Location: Maumee Bay Lodge & Conference Center\, 1750 State Park Road #2\, Oregon\, OH 43616 \nRegistration: You can now register for the Fall Pastors Retreat – be an EARLY BIRD! This is a wonderful time for us to be together\, be encouraged\, and be equipped. \n\nClick Here to Register Online\nBrochure & Register by Mail: TBD (Please watch your email and regular mail for a brochure.)\n\nCost: \nWe recognize the cost is significantly more than in previous years and acknowledge this as one of the concerns many of you expressed in the survey following our 2024 retreat. These costs reflect the substantial increase in the costs charged to us by Maumee Bay (food costs at the retreat center increased over 33% compared to 2024 and the room rates went up by 12%). \nThe amount you are asked to pay does not reflect the full cost of the retreat. The actual costs quoted by the Lodge are $370 per person (double occupancy) for the room and meals. But our GLC Staff is committed to raising funds to reduce the cost by $50 per person to $320. Costs for the speaker\, musicians\, and other miscellaneous costs are paid for out of GLCMA funds from your dues. We are looking at additional ways to reduce these costs and will notify you if there are any changes. \nAdditionally\, there are scholarships available. Please contact one of us if you are in need of a scholarship. OUR GOAL is that finances would not prevent anyone from attending. \nWe have looked for other venues to try and reduce the costs. However we have not been able to find any that are of sufficient size and “somewhat centrally located” for our geographically diverse conference. If you have any suggestions for future years\, please feel free to forward them to any of us on the Executive Committee. \nThe Speaker: \nOur speaker for this year is Dr Gary Burge. Gary is s a scholar in New Testament studies specializing in the gospels and the cultural context of first century Judea. In particular\, Gary has written extensively on the Gospel of John and this will be the primary focus of his time with us (details to be provided in the forthcoming brochure) In addition to sharing with us on the Gospel of John\, we expect that Gary will be providing an optional workshop on the Middle East\, particularly the Promised Land\, another one of his focused areas of expertise. \nOriginally from Southern California\, Gary was an undergraduate at the University of California\, Riverside\, and The American University of Beirut\, Lebanon. He attended Fuller Theological Seminary and King’s College\, The University of Aberdeen\, Scotland. In Scotland he studied with I. Howard Marshall and earned a Ph.D. in New Testament. He served on the faculties of King College (Tennessee)\, North Park University (Illinois) and after 25 years at Wheaton College (Illinois) he joined the faculty of Calvin Theological Seminary (Michigan) in 2017 as Visiting Professor of New Testament. He moved from regular faculty to adjunct in July 2023. Gary is currently attending Thornapple Covenant Church in Grand Rapids on a fairly regular basis. \nWe look forward to seeing you in September\,\nThe GLCMA Executive Committee\nKendall Churchill\, Chair \nEmail: kendallchurchill@gmail.com\nPhone: (425) 635-8572

SUMMARY:Responding to God’s Call for Your Community Cohort (4 Sessions)
DESCRIPTION:A Learning and Equipping Cohort for Mission Advancement \nDates: Jan 30\, Feb 13\, Feb 27\, Mar 13 \nLocation/Time: All four Zoom sessions are from 7:00-8:00pm CST \nCost: None \nRegistration Deadline: January 28\, 2025 \nRegistration: To register your team (or an individual)\, send an e-mail to Peg (Kohring) Cichon pegkohring@gmail.com with contact information:  Name(s)\, Church\, City/State\, e-mail\, phone.  The team (or individual) will receive confirmation of registration and the zoom link for the series. \nWould you like to see more people begin to follow Jesus through your ministry? Join leaders from other GLC churches to strengthen your outreach ministry in a 4-session cohort experience\, “Responding to God’s Call for Your Community” starting January 30\, 2025. \nThe 4 Sessions include: \n\nJanuary 30\, Jody Eidnes and Peg Cichon (Conference Offices) will help you to lay the foundation for reaching out to your community. You will go through a short workbook that can help to prepare your congregation for community outreach. Then you will be shown some of the basics of MissionInsite*\, a demographics program that can help you to understand the unique makeup and needs of your community. Following the session\, a member of your team will be invited to work with Jody to generate a MissionInsite demographic report of your neighborhood or community that you can use to help develop plans for the future.\nFebruary 13\, Alex Rahill II\, Lead Pastor of Life Church Livonia\, will share time-tested outreach ministry techniques (used commonly in church-planting) to connect in meaningful ways with people in your community.\nFebruary 27\, ECC Director of Evangelism\, Iesha Hawley will help you develop skills to talk about Jesus to those in your community.\nDate TBD\, In the last session\, Peg Cichon\, the GLC Vitality Liaison\, will discuss how to use the information from the past three sessions to develop a fall kickoff campaign to reach your community for Christ.\n\nAll four zoom sessions are from 7:00-8:00 pm CST. We recommend that (at a minimum) a member of the pastoral staff and an elected church leader or members of your Outreach Ministry Team (if you have one) participate in this cohort together.  For the MissionInsite* work it helps to have a tech-comfortable person on the team. \n* MissionInsite is a demographic analysis tool that has proven to be remarkably helpful to GLC Churches in understanding their neighbors and developing strategies for connecting with them.  See the website here:  https://www.acstechnologies.com/missioninsite

SUMMARY:Fall 2020 Virtual Pastors Retreat
DESCRIPTION:To register\, please Click Here.\nBelow is a detailed description of the virtual retreat\, including guest speaker Al Tizon’s biography and session information. Please prayerfully consider attending! \n  \nWhole and Reconciled | Fall 2020 Virtual Pastors Retreat (spouses welcome!)\n“Whole-Gospel Ministry in a Polarized Culture: Pastoral Ministry in an Age of Political and Social Upheaval.” \nPolitical and Racial tensions are high\, civility is waning in society and the Church\, and we are in the midst of a global health pandemic that directly or indirectly affects everyone to whom we minister. Even at our best now\, most of us are feeling the effects of fatigue\, anxiety\, grief\, and discouragement. But our call to ministry has not diminished. It has just gotten more difficult. How does a pastor lead well\, care well\, and preach well in the most volatile cultural circumstances that our generation has experienced? \nAl Tizon – a pastor at heart with exceptional leadership and teaching gifts – will help us answer that question in our upcoming retreat as he shares wisdom gleaned during decades of ministry. His clear\, calm\, thoughtful voice of reason rooted in Biblical truth will remind us whose we are\, and offer pathways forward so that we and the people we serve may be “whole and reconciled” – to God and one another. \nJoin us November 9-11 via Zoom for this special time with colleagues across the Great Lakes Conference. Please Register Here. \n  \nGuest Speaker Al Tizon\nAl Tizon serves as the Executive Minister of the Covenant’s Serve Globally mission priority\, a position he stepped into in 2015. In this role he provides pastoral support and strategic direction for 105 Covenant missionaries who work with local partners in 25 countries. He also oversees Covenant World Relief\, The Paul Carlson Partnership\, Covenant Kids Congo\, Global Engagements\, and The Center for World Christian Studies. Meanwhile\, Al serves as Associate Professor of Missional and Global Leadership at North Park Theological Seminary.  In his 31 years of full time ministry – which included 5 years as Lead Pastor of Berkley Covenant Church in Berkley\, CA – Al has engaged in community development\, church leadership\, advocacy\, and urban ministry in the United States and the Philippines. Prior to stepping into the role of Executive Minister\, Al was a professor at Palmer Theological Seminary (formerly Eastern Seminary) for 9 years.  He is the author of multiple books\, including Whole and Reconciled; Missional Preaching; Transformation after Lausanne;  and co-editor of two. Al is married to Janice and together they are parents of 4 adult children. Al is passionate about missiology\, his five grandchildren\, their Great Dane “Dude\,” sushi\, and racquetball.  To learn about his zest for adventure\, ask him sometime about his favorite rock climbing experience. \n  \nRetreat Sessions | November 9 – 10\, 2020 (Eastern)\nMonday | 7 PM – 9 PM | Welcome\, worship and speaker \nTuesday | 9 AM – 11 AM | Welcome\, worship and speaker \nTuesday | 2 PM – 4 PM | Space to Breathe; optional time to engage in a spiritual practice led by Jennifer Andersson. \nTuesday | 7 PM – 9 PM | Welcome\, worship\, speaker and communion \n  \nOptional Session | November 11\, 2020 (Eastern)\nWednesday | 9 AM – 11 AM | A deeper dive; an open time for questions and answers and next steps with Al Tizon.

SUMMARY:Being an Unlikely Leader in Uncertain Times
DESCRIPTION:Who: Church Chairs \nWhen: Nov 5\, 2020 07:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nPresenter: Paul Lessard\, Executive Minister of Start and Strengthen Churches \nRegister in Advance: After registering\, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting. \nDescription: \nThe last 6 months have been tough. The effects of COVID-19\, escalating racial tension\, and increasing political polarization have all seeped into our churches in some form\, taken a toll\, and left us with an abiding sense of uncertainty about the future. Most of us are experiencing fatigue borne of long work hours and constant multitasking among competing priorities (family\, work\, school\, church\, etc.). Most of us have been affected by local or state restrictions on gathering. Some of us have had to address conflict within our churches over the pursuit of racial righteousness\, the wearing of masks\, or the timing of a return to in-person worship. And when we are honest\, there is more than a little uncertainty about what the future holds. (Which of our members won’t come back? Will we ever get back to ‘normal’?) Our Pastors are feeling the weight of this season and our Church Chairs are as well. You didn’t sign up for THIS! Yet here you are. Though you might consider yourself an unlikely person to help lead your church through one of the most intense and challenging seasons that the Church has ever experienced\, you were in fact elected by your congregation to do so. Because it can be a lonely\, isolating\, uncomfortable space\, I’m grateful that you continue to serve\, and I long for you to be encouraged in your role.   \nThe GLC has asked Paul Lessard\, the ECC’s Executive Minister of Start and Strengthen Churches (SSC) to share a word with the Chairs of our GLC Churches about “Being an Unlikely Leader in Uncertain Times.” It is a thoughtful message rooted in the story of Lydia and the church plant in Philippi (Acts 16) through which Paul shows how the Lord has prepared us through the call on our life\, to lead in times for which we feel unsuited and unprepared. His message is one of encouragement and affirmation in these days when it can be difficult to lead.  It is a message he has shared with a number of church leaders and pastors in recent weeks through his various connections across the country.  It has been well received and much appreciated. In addition to hearing from Paul\, there will be an opportunity to ask questions\, meet some other GLC Church Chairs and pray for one another.    \nPaul was elected to serve as Executive Minister of SSC in 2019. In the role he oversees both Church Planting and Congregational Vitality Ministries for our entire denomination. Prior to this role he worked as a lead pastor\, a worship pastor\, a consultant for churches\, mission agencies and other non-profits\, and as a college instructor and administrator. Paul is deeply committed to the Gospel\, and to Christ’s Church. He has been in full time ministry for 32 years and cares deeply for both pastors and lay leaders.

The content of the Coach Model is not specific to any mission priority\, which is what makes this resource such a powerful tool. Thus\, it works for Vitality coaches\, Church Plant coaches\, life coaches\, pastors who want to coach lay leaders\, lay leaders who want to coach others\, etc. \nThe Great Lakes Conference is being asked to identify some prospective coaches and encourage them to attend. Additionally\, people may self-select to go (and should self-select if they think this training would be beneficial). \n  \n \nIntroduction to The COACH Model® from Keith Webb on Vimeo. \nQuestions? — Please direct all questions to: \nStart and Strengthen Churches\nsscadmincore@covchurch.org\n773.299.7267
