Covenant Community Care

The mission of Covenant Community Care is to show and share the love of God, as seen in the good news of Jesus Christ, by providing integrated, affordable, and quality health care to those who need it most.

Covenant Community Care (CCC) stands as a beacon of hope and compassion in the heart of Detroit. Recently, I had the privilege to speak with Joslyn Pettway, the Chief Executive Officer, who shared insights about their vital services and the incredible impact they have on the community through their three locations. The newest center opened just over a year ago on Joy Road near the Southfield freeway, offering essential medical, dental, behavioral health, and substance abuse recovery services. They also have several mobile dental initiatives that service the Detroit Public Schools and the homeless shelters in the area.

What truly sets CCC apart is their unwavering commitment to serve those in need—caring for approximately 19,000 patients each year with roughly 900 being homeless. This number continues to grow as more individuals seek help. Their clinics originally started as a free health care clinic supported with funding from the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC) and transitioned into a Federal Health organization in 2007 to ensure sustainable operational revenue while meeting an expanding population’s needs.

At CCC, faith-based care remains at the forefront of their mission. With a dedicated staff of around 150 professionals who regularly pray with patients—many of whom may never set foot inside a church—they provide not only physical health support but also nurture spiritual well-being. The board at CCC is composed of 11 devoted individuals, more than half being patients themselves. This dynamic ensures that those who are served have an authentic voice in shaping policies and practices within the organization. Pastor Semmeal Thomas from City Covenant is on the board and finance committee and exemplifies a strong leadership and serving ethos. His unwavering dedication has been instrumental in guiding both CCC and its new west-side center.

Looking ahead, we can anticipate The Courage to Care fundraiser launching in August 2025—the first of its kind since COVID struck our communities so hard. This event will be a wonderful opportunity to support CCC’s ongoing efforts and join them in making a difference.

Covenant Community Care’s mission reflects not just healthcare but holistic healing—a compassionate embrace for those most often overlooked. I encourage everyone to consider becoming involved with this remarkable organization—whether by attending the fundraiser or supporting them in any way you can. Together, we can contribute to nurturing both body and spirit within our beloved Detroit community. Stay tuned for more details that will be shared across our social media platforms!
